competition entry for the art competition: “make art! your sculpture for berlin” 2015 – deutsche bank

project description:

initial idea: deutsche bank logo

material: steel – welding rod made of nickel-containing steel for gas welding

maximum model dimensions: 50 x 50 x 50 cm. this space is fully utilized, including the height, thanks to the thin-walled dome.

regarding the model’s character:

with its organic form and vibrant surface texture, the presented sculpture creates a captivating counterpoint to the strictly geometric, digital architecture of the existing deutsche bank building complex on otto-suhr-allee. this architecture is, however, echoed in the form of an integrated cube and a smooth support structure. these contrasting forms evoke the divide between nature and technology, within which modern humans seek their place.

the sculpture is literally accessible and can be occupied. It can provide functional protection from rain, create a shelter, and offer shade. It thus serves as a meeting point for people in the square.

the blue backlighting makes the object appear weightless and visually float in the darkness, as it seems to have no contact with the ground to a distant observer. the color scheme here again echoes the deutsche bank logo.
